The Alchemist
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho is another favorite of mine. It is a powerful tale of a man on a mission to fulfill his “Personal Legend”. The main character, Santiago, is a Shepherd living in Andalusia, however after he continues to have the same dream and vision over and over again, he decides to set out on a great journey. The dream consists of a child telling him to seek gold at the foot of the pyramids in Egypt. He meets a holy man who confirms that this is what he should do, and so he sells his belongings and leaves his home town.
This well written book is filled with excitement and mystery. Although it is a fictional story in essence, it actually reveals many esoteric truths to the reader. It is layered with bits and pieces of true alchemical wisdom, and even reveals the actual doctrine of the alchemists : The Emerald Tablet of Hermes.
After reading this book, it became quite clear to me that Paulo Coelho was a great mystic and esotericist. Only one of great attainment and study could have written a book as masterful as this, with such incredible hidden truths.
Just like Siddhartha, this book has become a modern classic due to the wide demographic that it appeals to : It can be beneficial to the beginner and advanced spiritual seeker, as well as some who just loves to read fiction! Just like other spiritual books on Enlighteningspiritualbooks.com, it is very enlightening, AND as a fictional book, it is very enjoyable!
